Raider News-April 29

Parents,

In the last couple of days, local and national media sources have been reporting about a growing outbreak of swine flu across our nation. Though the numbers are minimal in relation to the nation’s population, the ramifications of a major outbreak are reason for concern.  Please assist us as we remind our students to do the following:

· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

· Wash your hands often with soap and water. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

· Avoid sharing food and drinks.

· Avoid close contact with sick people.

NEW SHOT REQUIREMENTS FOR 6TH GRADE STUDENTS FOR FALL 2009

A new law went into effect this March for new vaccines for all 6th grade students entering the 7th grade for the 2009-2010 school year. Your student will need the following shots prior to fall registration in August. They will need a 2nd  varicella (chicken pox) vaccine if they have not had the chicken pox. They will also be required to have a Tdap and a MCV4 vaccine. The Tdap is a tetanus booster with pertussis added to prevent whooping cough and the MCV4 is the meningitis vaccine. I will be hosting a shot clinic here at school on May 12th with the Tarrant County Health Department. If you are interested in getting the vaccines here at school, the cost will be $14 for one vaccine and $20 for two or more vaccines. I must have the paperwork filled out and the payment by May 8th.  If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please contact me for the paperwork.  If your child has already received his or her vaccines, please bring me a copy of the updated shot record. Your child will not be allowed to enroll next fall without proof of having these vaccines.

Attention 8th grade parents: All 8th grade students must have an up-to-date Tdap vaccine prior to 9th grade registration (the student will not be allowed to register if this vaccine is not current).  If your child received the paperwork when reports cards were sent home, then your child will need the vaccine or I need an updated record (please ask your child
J
).  Your child can also take advantage of the vaccine clinic on May 12th.  If you would like for your child to also have the meningitis vaccine or the varicella vaccine (both are highly recommended but are not mandatory), please see the nurse for the paperwork.  If your child received paperwork and he/she is in 7th grade, he or she will also require an updated Tdap.

The health department will also have Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines if you are interested. Again, please contact me with ANY questions.

Thank you,
Amber Kahle, RN, BSN, NCSN

8th Grade Parents and Track Meet Information

Posted by: jruss | March 25, 2009 | No Comment |

8th grade parents,

We are in the midst of preparing for our annual 8th grade awards ceremony.  We need your assistance.  Each year we have a video slide show of our students as a part of the ceremony.  Our goal is to have at least one photo of each student.  Please share your family photographs of your child.

You may send the photographs via email to dandcyorek@sbcglobal.net  or your child may bring a hard copy to Mrs. Hunt at the front desk.

At this spring’s PTA meeting, Tim Waldmann, the 9th grade Birdville High School assistant principal, will be providing information for parents concerning Birdville High School.  The following link allows you to anonymously ask a question about Birdville High School.  Mr. Waldmann will evaluate your questions in an effort to make this meeting as informative as possible.

http://www.quia.com/sv/281889.html

Sincerely,

Jeff Russell

Track Parents,

Due to the fact that we have several kids participating in the UIL band competition on April 2nd, the BISD athletic department has moved the 8th grade track meet from Thursday, April 2nd to Tuesday, March 31st. We will have a Birdville only 8th grade track meet. The 7th grade track on Monday, March 30th will proceed as scheduled.

Please notify all pertinent persons today so that they can make preparations for the adjustment.

Thanks for your patience in this adjustment.
